CHATFIELD – A small church in Chatfield is planning a car show for a good cause.
The Chatfield Evangelical Pietist Church is holding its third annual God & Country Car Show Saturday, Aug. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the church grounds, Chatfield Center Road. Proceeds will go toward local mission outreach.
“Our whole purpose is to share the love of Christ with the community,” said Linda Schulze, one of the event’s organizers and a member of the church’s Vision Team. “Everything we do is always geared toward serving the community.”
The car show is free to the public as well as those who register their vehicles, Schulze said. Everyone attending is also treated to a complimentary lunch provided by the church, although donations for the meal are always appreciated, she said.
The patriotic show will feature all makes and models of classic cars, trucks, and motorcycles, with an awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Complimentary dash plaques will be handed out to the first 100 people who pre-register by Aug. 1, Schulze said.
The local band “One Foot in the Grave” will perform that day along with members of the Pietist Praise Team and other area musicians. Free popcorn, prizes, and activities for children are also planned for the family-oriented event, she said.
The idea for a car show originated two years ago with Schulze’s husband, Tom. Other shows that year were scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Linda Schulze said, “but it was set up COVID safe and we had about 70 cars show up. It went well.”
God & Country since then has drawn participants from around the Buckeye State and as far away as Florida and Missouri, she said. Church members will also be distributing free school supplies during the car show from noon to 2 p.m.
“We’re a small congregation so we pretty much need everybody working that day. It takes a lot of people, especially since we’re also handing out school supplies that day.”
Registration information is available from Tom Schulze at tomschulzej3@gmail.com or on the church’s website: pietistchurch.org.
