It will likely be several days before the cause of an early morning fire on E. Warren Street in Bucyrus is known.
According to Lt. Steve Sargar, the fire department received the initial call at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
A neighbor who resides in the Larno Apartments called saying they thought they saw flames in the house. Upon arrival, the vacant home was engulfed. It took firefighters approximately three hours to get the blaze under control. Although the house and the neighboring home were vacant, a house behind the burning structure was occupied.
The firefighters knocked on doors and got the families out of harm’s way. Two cats were caught in the blaze and sadly, one pet cat did not survive.
“This was a big one,” Sargar said. “It is too soon to even surmise the cause of this blaze, there were many exposures and variables.
He credits the quick response of the neighbors as a major factor in reducing the potential damage to other dwellings in the area.
