NEWS RELEASE:
In observance and reverence of Veteran’s Day, the Bucyrus City School District will host special programs and assemblies at both the Elementary and Secondary School Nov. 10. These programs are intended to not only honor local veterans both active and reserve, but to also help Bucyrus students better understand the significance behind this national holiday.
Crawford County Veterans Hall of Fame President Chuck Christman will keynote a 2:00 p.m. assembly at the Secondary School. Prior to Mr. Christman’s keynote, the High School Band will perform The Star-Spangled Banner, followed by a patriotic performance by the choir and a video will be shown to help students have a better understand the importance of recognizing veterans.
“We try to put something together each year to explain to the students what Veterans Day means,” said Secondary School Principal Dr. Mark Burke. “We want to remind them why we should be so grateful to our veterans.”
Earlier that day, the Elementary School will begin its day with a Leadership Breakfast, in which students will invite the important veterans in their lives to enjoy muffins, coffee and juice. Following breakfast, the entire Elementary student body will be involved in a very special Leader in Me assembly, designed to recognize veterans for their service.
“I am very proud of our staff and students for taking the time to honor those men and women who have fought so bravely to protect our freedoms,” said Superintendent Kevin Kimmel. “I’m looking forward to enjoying all the day’s activities with our school family and veterans from our community. Thank you all for your service.”
The district would like to thank all the special guests for making these assemblies possible.
