BUCYRUS — The administration of Bucyrus City Schools is turning to new and different avenues of communications to try to reach the members of its district, in hopes to share the success the district is having.

Bucyrus City Schools Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said changes to the district’s newsletters and website will better help the district broadcast its message.

“There’s a negative perception of our school and it really is not fair,” Kimmel said. “Our goal is to use our new communication abilities to share the positives of our district.”

The changes to the district’s website have moved it into a more multi-media style of communication. Video now will be a large part of the communication strategy.

Not only will Kimmel be sending out weekly videos to his staff, but videos will be in place for the public’s viewing on the district’s website, which was redesigned for easier use.

“It’s much more interactive and user friendly,” Kimmel said. “It has everything on it now, all our athletic schedules and all our other events.”

The website also contains videos showing what students have accomplished during the year.

Kimmel also will be taking part in a Facebook Live session every fourth Wednesday of the month with a question and answer opportunity at the end. The first video is Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.

“We did a few last year,” Kimmel said. “We feel the best time is at night when parents are off work and have the chance to participate.

“We’re trying to provide multiple avenues for our families to receive information about our district.”

Kimmel said the district needs to constantly be evolving with its communications, just as it must evolve with its curriculum and education.

“We need to customize the education to fit every student’s needs and not follow a cookie-cutter format,” Kimmel said.

He said the approach to trying to meet the needs of students should better attract students and families to give Bucyrus a chance.

“There are some families that move into the district, and some that have always lived here, that have never stepped foot in our schools because of rumors through hearsay,” Kimmel said. “Our goal is to provide a positive learning experience for our students and if they come into our doors, we believe we can do just that.

“We also believe that these different methods of communication will assist in showing what we have to offer.”
