BUCYRUS – Because of the marked increase in COVID-19 cases in our county and with a spike anticipated following the Thanksgiving holiday, the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce has made the difficult decision not to host Candlelight Christmas this year. The potential for spreading the virus to vulnerable individuals is too great to encourage group congregation with this event.

“This was a decision that I did not want to make alone, and thankfully didn’t have to,” said Jessie Furner, Executive Director of the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce. “I have a knowledgeable and supportive board  who helped me research, discuss, and consider our options before deciding that event could not go forward safely. Many downtown businesses will still be open next Thursday, and there are plenty of opportunities to do all of our Christmas shopping right here in the Bucyrus area! There are still also a few days left to collect those Crawfordopoly cards. Whether you go out next Thursday evening, or anytime you are shopping this holiday, please mask up and social distance. Do your part to ensure a healthy holiday – physically, economically and otherwise – for our community.”

There is still a whole month remaining to SHOP LOCAL for the holidays, and many businesses will have sales, giveaways, and be open special hours. Please continue to check out the Bucyrus Area Chamber’s Facebook Candlelight Christmas event page for updates from area businesses, and contact them at 419-562-4811 with any questions. Businesses are encouraged to reach out to the Chamber with details about specials for holiday shopping so that they can help promote these.
