A former Redman has joined the ranks of the Bucyrus Police Department but he was never one to sport Bucyrus red and black.
Shane Cramer was sworn in as Bucyrus’ newest police officer Tuesday evening. Cramer, a 2010 Bellevue graduate, has since traded in his red and white to become one of the boys in blue.
“His lifelong goal has been to be a police officer,” Police Chief Dave Koepke said as he introduced Cramer to the crowd assembled in Council Chambers.
“It’s just something I’ve always really wanted to do. I was really in to public service-type stuff,” Cramer explained.
Cramer took his first steps toward that goal when he became a part of the auxiliary police department in Bellevue. After high school, Cramer received his police training from Terra Community College before heading to the Huron Police Department. He also served with a township volunteer fire department before coming to Bucyrus.
“Huron’s loss is our gain,” Koepke said to a round of chuckles. “He demonstrated that to us as far as being very into the community. He’s been here a lot. He’s come in on his own time to visit the city, see what Bucyrus is all about.”
“He just did fantastic in the oral interview,” Koepke praised. “What comes across from Shane is that he’s a caring person. He’s curious. He wants to help people. That’s exactly those characteristics we’re looking for in a police officer in our community. We’re excited to have Shane join us.”
As for Cramer, he didn’t seem to mind becoming part of a Redmen community again.
“Thank you for the opportunity,” Cramer said. “I hope to do really great here.”
