BUCYRUS – On April 21, the Crawford County Board of Health met in regular session and at the end of the meeting accepted the resignation of long-time Board of Health member, Bill Scott.

Scott was first appointed to the Board of Health in 2008 to fill a seat initially held by Dr. G. Wesley Bowersock with two years remaining in that appointment.  In 2010, Scott was re-appointed for a full five-year term and subsequently re-appointed each time his term ended in 2015 and 2020.  Additionally, Scott has served on the Board of Health Finance Committee since 2016.

A life-long resident of Crawford County, Scott, is stepping down from the Board of Health to fill an appointment as a Holmes Township Trustee.  “I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as a Board of Health member and have great respect for the work that is done here.  As a township trustee, I will continue to support the work done by this Board and agency, but in a different capacity.”

The seat Scott is vacating will be filled by the District Advisory Council (DAC) consisting of the president of the county commissioners, the chairperson of the board of township trustees of each township, and the mayors of each city and village within the Crawford County Public Health jurisdiction.  The DAC will be organizing a special meeting soon for the purposes of filling this vacancy to the Board of Health.

Interested candidates must live within Crawford County, but not inside the city limits of Bucyrus or Galion.  The member appointed by the DAC will complete a term that runs through March 2025.  Anyone interested in this appointment is asked to either contact a township trustee, mayor, county commissioner or send an email to Kate Siefert, Health Commissioner, at kate.siefert@crawfordhealth.org to provide their name, address, phone number and a brief summary of their interest in serving on the Board.

The Crawford County Board of Health is comprised of seven members.  The other DAC appointments include Zach Wolfe, Dean Sipe and Dr. Stephen Novack.  The City of Bucyrus appointments are Phyllis Crall and Kurt Fankhauser.  Scott Woodworth is the Licensing Council appointment to the Board of Health representing businesses that are regulated by Crawford County Public Health.
