BUCYRUS — The winner of a bicycle was announced Friday after a drawing at Hy-Miler Exxon Mobil in Bucyrus.

Bucyrus resident Larry Beach is excited to ride the new bike that he won through an autism awareness campaign at Hy-Miler in Bucyrus.

Manager Tina Cass said it is the second year for the autism awareness campaign since Exxon took control of the gas station and convenience store.

“We have been holding the drawing every year, though, for more than a decade,” Cass said.

Autism Awareness Day was April 2 and the entire month of April is designated as Autism Awareness Month through Autism Speaks, an organization that assists people on the autism spectrum through research and resources.

Cain Homan’s mom, Kitty Kepley, is an employee at Hy-Miler and Cain did the honors of drawing the name of the winner while employee Stephanee Borer made the announcement: Larry Beach won the bike.

“I purchased a bike to help raise money, to give an incentive for our customers to give,” Cass said.

Cass said she appreciates the community’s support in helping raise awareness about autism along with donations for the one in 68 children affected by autism spectrum disorders.

“Our customers have been very generous,” Cass said. “I am humbled by the generosity of our community.”

The bicycle was delivered to Beach later Friday.

“He is excited to ride it,” Borer said.

The campaign ends April 30. Hymiler is located at 600 S. Sandusky Ave., Bucyrus.
