BUCYRUS—Upon the arrest of Dakota Commodore, a 30-year-old resident of Bucyrus, for violating his probation, Probation Officers were taken aback by the content found on his phone.

Commodore had been placed on probation due to a fifth-degree felony and was suspected of breaching a protective order. During the examination of Commodore’s phone, officers discovered a disturbing video featuring Commodore and his former partner, Katlyn Burkett, a 22-year-old from Bucyrus, engaged in sexual activities involving two dogs.
Both individuals are facing three counts of engaging in sexual activities with an animal, classified as second-degree misdemeanors. The charges are identical for both defendants:

“Between August 14, 2022, and August 14, 2023, (Dakota Commodore and Katlyn Burkett) knowingly participated in sexual activities with an animal, or knowingly possessed, sold, or acquired an animal with the intention of involving it in sexual activities, contravening Ohio Revised Code 959.21 (B) pertaining to Sexual Conduct with an Animal.”
The arraignment of the two defendants took place via video link from the Crawford County Jail on a Wednesday afternoon. They appeared before Municipal Court Judge Shane Leuthold. During the arraignment, Commodore confessed his guilt to all three charges. Leuthold ruled that Commodore would serve 30 days in jail for each count, totaling 90 days. Following his release, he would remain on probation. Additionally, Leuthold imposed a ban on Commodore from owning dogs in the future.
Burkett entered a plea of not guilty. The court provided her with legal representation and released her on a personal recognizance bond. She was ordered to refrain from any contact with dogs.
According to sources, authorities have gained custody of at least one of the dogs involved.
