The Nevada Village Council had a visitor at its meeting on Monday. A representative of Mennco Grain shared that company’s plan for a major rebuild following the recent fire there.

As part of those plans, Mennco Grain asked the council to vacate the alley there. Mayor Ken Kerr explained. “We talked about closing an ally the granary is going to build some new parts because of the fire they had at the dryer. They wanted to close the ally beside them, we are talking about that this month and we will revisit it on our next meeting,” Kerr said.

Mennco assured council that the company is committed to the community and the new improvements, such as a $500,000 bin coming in two to three years, will be designed for less congestion around the grainery.

While council will consider vacating and closing that alley, there is one public area that will be closed for sure.

“We are also closing the brush pile or the yard waste dump that we have out by the sewer plant due to high piles of brush and limbs and people are starting to dump trash out there and we need to get that cleaned up and we will figure out what to do with that with our first meeting,” Kerr said.

Three properties in the village will be demolished after they are turned over to Wyandot County Commissioners. The demolition will be funded by a grant and then the properties will be resold.

Council member Richard Awbrey reported from the Wyandot County East Fire Department that there will be a “Feel the Heat” training exercise for any citizen from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 3 in Reynoldsburg. Participants will wear turn-out gear and walk through a burning structure. Those interested should contact their local fire chief to register..

The village’s Egg Hunt for children will be at 1 p.m. April 26. The rain date is April 27.
