CRESTLINE — Crestline Village Council hosted a public hearing before council’s regular meeting Monday evening for a possible zoning change in the village.
According to Village Administrator John Rostash, the hearing was for Bulldog Storage and Lock It, owned by Duane Swart.
“He originally wanted to locate the business right on Main Street and residents in that area were staunchly opposed and he was denied by the planning commission,” Rostash said.
Swart now has the opportunity to purchase a vacant lot off East Main Street to open his storage business.
“The zoning in that area is a mixture and includes local business, general business and residential (R-2),” Rostash said. “We want to take those and clean up that area, making it all general business. We don’t want to just change the map but change the code and we will make self-storage facilities a conditional use.”
No one at the meeting opposed the prospect.
“Conditional use allows flexibility for future development,” Rostash said. “We want to work with local business owners and at the same time, have well-planned development.”
In other council business, a resolution was passed by council authorizing the village administrator to apply for, accept and enter into a cooperative agreement for a waste water system improvements project with the Ohio Water Development Authority.
“At the last council meeting, we picked our engineer and now we’re moving forward with financial planning piece of the project,” Rostash said.
A resolution to hire a new full-time firefighter and EMT, Kyler Dilley, also was approved by council along with the establishment of a permanent annual (ordinance) appropriation for the village for year ending December 2019.
Council went into executive session to discuss personnel issues. Afterward the session, council passed an amendment to the manpower ordinance to hire an additional administrative support person.
Council’s next meeting is March 4 at 6:30 p.m.
