MARION — Marion Police Chief Bill Collins and Marion County Sheriff Tim Bailey made a joint release of additional information of an officer-involved shooting that involved a Bucyrus man.

The chief and sheriff said in a press release that the suspect, 33-year-old Matthew Lust, currently is at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital and has undergone multiple surgeries. The law enforcement officials said Lust most recently was listed as being in critical condition.

The victim of the shooting, a 30-year-old Marion woman, was released from the hospital, but will need future medical care as a result of the incident with Lust.

A warrant was issued for Lust’s arrest for charges of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault. Additional charges are possible pending the results of the investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Lust will be arrested on the warrant upon his release from the hospital.

According to the release, the officer involved was Officer Joseph McDonald, a four-year veteran of the Marion Police Department, and the deputy involved was Lt. Christy Utley, an 18-year veteran with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

“I am very grateful that this very dangerous suspect was able to be apprehended before any other people could be harmed,” Bailey said in the release.

Collins echoed the sentiment.

“I know that this was a very scary incident for the neighborhood, as well the law enforcement officers, but I am so thankful that no bystanders or officers were hurt,” Collins said.

The investigation is ongoing with Marion PD, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and BCI assisting.
