Donald E Seiter, 88, Ashland, died Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Belmont Towers Assisted Living, Ashland, Ohio.
Don was born in Morrow County on October 11, 1929 to the late Charles R. and Harriet M. (Johnson) Seiter. He married C. Jean (Melcher) Seiter on December, 2, 1950 in Iberia and she survives him.
Donald was a graduate of Iberia High School in 1947. After graduation, he was employed at the Galion Iron Works until he was called into service. Don served his country proud for two years in the U.S. Army with time in Korea. Upon returning he worked for Iberia Earthmoving and later at PECO in Galion. He was a machinist for over 25 years. After moving to Ashland, he was employed at Brethren Care Village in Ashland in the maintenance department and Ashland Country Club as a grounds keeper (retiring in 2013). Don also volunteered at Joy of Living Ministries.
He is a Life time member of 32nd degree Mason Valley of Columbus Oliver Lodge 447, Caledonia, former member of Eastern Star Vera Chapter #64 and The American Legion, # 88 Harry Higgins Post, Ashland, and served 35 years as a volunteer fireman and Board of Directors for the Iberia Fire Department.
He is survived by In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jerry (Susan) Seiter of Ashland, Lyle (Elizabeth) Seiter of Big Prairie; seven granddaughters, Misti (Joshua) Berry, Jenel (John) Bentley, Brittany (Jacob) Smith, Tiffany (Kurt) Roberts, Ashton (Max) Gill, Megan Irwin, Katie Irwin; eight great-granddaughters, Avery Bentley, Maycee Gill, Emily Bentley, Olivia Berry, Adalynn Roberts, Benley Berry, Luciana Roberts; one great-grandson, Hutch Gill; two sisters, Beverly Beach of Land O’ Lakes, Florida, Darlene (Charles) Morris of Iberia; sister-in-law, Diane Porter; brother-in-law, Vincent Melcher.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Benjamin Seiter on April 25, 1994; brother-in-law, Bill Beach; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gerald and Mary Bosh; brother-in-law, Terry Porter; sister-in-law, Janet Melcher.
Friends may call Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion where a time of reflection will be held at 6:15pm. Graveside services will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the Iberia Cemetery, with full military honors will be given at the graveside by the U.S. Army and the Crestline/Galion Veterans Military Funeral Burial Detail.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Brethren Care Village, Joy of Living Ministries, Ashland County Veteran’s in care of the funeral home.
