A 14-year-old Mount Gilead boy has become a possible target of the search at the Crawford County landfill Tuesday afternoon, according to a friend of the missing boy’s family.
The woman who said she is “very close to the family,” said the missing boy’s mother said law enforcement officers called her and said video footage was discovered of the boy climbing into a dumpster at a Mount Gilead school.
The family friend said the mother was told by officers that the boy was not seen exiting the dumpster before the garbage truck emptied the unit.
“Now, did that mean the video didn’t skip and miss him getting out? We don’t know,” the family friend said.
The friend then said the mother was told law enforcement officials were going to search the Crawford County landfill.
“He’s definitely missing. That’s about the only information we know for sure,” the friend said.
Law enforcement officials have not confirmed the boy is the target of the search.

BUCYRUS — Multiple law enforcement agencies conducted a search of the Crawford County landfill Tuesday afternoon.
Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent said a search was being conducted to assist the Mount Gilead Police Department. Kent said he could not disclose the reason or objective of the search.
A dispatcher with the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, on behalf of the Mount Gilead Police Department, confirmed that information was not being released at that time and no one was available to give information other than that.
Kent said agencies on the scene of the landfill included the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Galion Police Department and Morrow County Sheriff’s Office.
Jonathan Kissell, a spokesperson for Rumpke, which is the operating company of the landfill, said a safety manager for Rumpke also is on the scene.
Kent said nothing had come of the search of the landfill, but added his office would release any additional information that becomes available.
Operations of the landfill are still ongoing.
