The Philippines may be half a world away but that’s not stopping Crawford County residents from helping out. Nancy McMurray, Executive Director for the Crawford County Chapter of the American Red Cross, said they have already received local monetary donations to help with the disaster relief after Typhoon Haiyan devastated the region less than a week ago.

McMurray said they only take financial donations, explaining that there was so much more they could do with cash, especially when other items may not arrive in time.

Donations to help the disaster relief in the Philippines can be made by going online to www.redcross.org or by dropping a check off at a local location. Checks can also be mailed in to the Red Cross. Those donating by check should write “Philippines disaster” in the memo line in order for the funds to go toward that relief effort.

The headquarters of the Crawford County Chapter of the American Red Cross is located at 110 E. Mary St. in Bucyrus. The Crestline office is located at 102 N. Thoman St., Crestline, and the Galion office is located at 124 N. Union St., Galion.
