A Bucyrus safety official will be placed on probation when he returns to work, Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser recently confirmed.
Bucyrus Fire Chief Jay Keller recently agreed to a six-month probationary period once he returns from being on medical leave.
Reser would not comment on the nature of what caused the sanctions to be brought on Keller. Reser said the city does not comment on personnel issues.
A notice of discipline signed by Keller was provided to CrawfordCountyNow.com upon a public records request. The notice was cosigned by Reser and Service-Safety Director Jeff Wagner.
The letter says, “Any new violations of the terms of this agreement, verified complaints regarding the use of profane or racially charged language in the workplace, failure to adequately supervise and document employee infractions, failure to maintain proper office management and record keeping, or any abusive, vindicitive or bullying behavior in the workplace as determined by the mayor will be cause for further disciplinary action up to and including termination.”
The notice also says Keller must undergo executive coaching development eveluation and assessment with the training at his expense, and he cannot be present at the fire station of active fire scenes while on medical leave.
Keller’s work hours are listed as 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the letter.
Keller signed the agreement July 20.
