Press release
With the help of the Bucyrus Historical Society, the Bucyrus Public Library will be having an Architectural Scavenger Hunt during the months of June and July. Participants will be given pictures of architectural features to locate on buildings around Bucyrus and note the address. Our hope is that by walking through Bucyrus with their eyes wide open, individuals and families will gain an understanding and appreciation of our world right here.
On July 29 at the Historical Society’s Historical Day celebration, winners will be drawn from the participants of the scavenger hunt as well as the summer reading program. The grand prize winners will receive copper kettles from Bucyrus Copper Kettle Works. On Aug. 1 at 2:00pm, Ray McCall and others of the Historical Society will be at the Library to identify and give a bit of background of the featured buildings. We hope you may want to participate also, and will understand if you happen to notice folks with papers and staring at buildings!
An additional part of the Summer Reading program this year will be the “Build a Better Bucyrus” wall which will be on the main floor of the library. We are encouraging patrons to post suggestions on that wall, and hope that our community leaders and all citizens will come in to see the ideas and post their own.
We also want to encourage everyone to join the Adult Summer Reading Program and experience the joy of reading. There will be many opportunities to win prizes from our local businesses including incentives for reading or listening to 5 and/or 10 books.
On June 15, at 1:00 pm, Mr. Ted Bruner and the other volunteers who restored the Dapper-Hoover cabin here in Crawford County will be at the Library to speak about the cabin’s history and its restoration. On July 6, at 1:00 pm, Mr. Bill Fisher will come to the Library to discuss the history of America’s National Parks and their role in “building a better world.”
