The Wynford Royals extended their basketball season Wednesday night taking down the Mansfield Christian Flames in the Division IV sectional semifinal at Lexington High School.
Both teams started off the game on an even keel with the game knotted up at 11 at the end of the first. The Royals would outscore the Flames 7-6 in the second to take a 18-17 lead into the half.
The game picked up for a little bit in the third with the Royals, despite a power outage in the third, as they outscored the Flames 12-5 for a 30-22 lead. The fourth would see the highest scoring output from both teams as the Royals outpaced the Flames 17-11 for a 47-33 final.
Wynford’s Jack Reed would lead all scorers in the game with 30 points, which included going 14-19 on free throws.
With the win Wynford improves to 13-10 on the season and will play the South Central Trojans at 8 p.m. on Friday in the sectional finals at Lexington.
Jarrod McPeak led the Mansfield Christian team with 10 points.
