Lines were on the minds of New Washington Village Council, not a line for an amusement ride, but rather the installation of fiber optic lines.

During Norm Lucius’ report to the New Washington Village Council he reported that the fiber optic line extension had come in earlier in the day. Lucius added that the group installing the line was going to dig a trench from the parking lot to the tower at the park to install the conduit. Lucius noted that he had stopped the crew as the original contract called for the line to be directional bored the entire way of the project. Lucius explained that the company would reseed the ground that would be uprooted during the installation. Lucius added that the line would be bored underneath the parking lot, however, a pothole would need to be created in a section of the lot in order to make sure that the borer wouldn’t hit a water line.

Another issue with the installation was that the line, which was originally to be one singular line, would be spliced as a result of the project. A representative for Wavelinc noted that with the thickness of the fiber optic conduits water intrusion wouldn’t occur at the splices.

Lucius received the council’s approval for the company to move forward with the trench method of line installation.

Lucius also noted that he spoke with the New Washington Police Chief about vehicles parked with outdated tags noting that there are at least three he would like to have removed.

Tiro Village Council member Matt Cleland requested to attend a meeting to review the village’s ordinance manual. Mayor Ben Lash reported the best way would be to view the ordinance manual on the village’s website and if Cleland were to have questions to ask. Lash noted that with the meeting open to the public Cleland was welcome to attend any of the bi-monthly meetings.

In Fire Chief Mark Heefner’s report to council he noted that the fire department had one run since the previous meeting. Heefner also added that three firefighters attended an arson training session in Ashland, and that in two weeks the fire department would be taking part in a training session in Bowling Green.
