The 2017 budget will soon go before Bucyrus City Council for final approval and included in that will be next year’s capital improvements projects.
Four major road projects, along with the annual mill and pave project, are scheduled to begin in 2017.
Plymouth Street will finally see the start of its long-awaited project. Storm and sanitary sewers, along with new curbs and sidewalks, will be installed between Sandusky Avenue and the corporation line on Ohio 98. Milling and pavement repairs, asphalt overlay, and utility pole consolidation will also occur.
The project is budgeted for $950,000 with primary funding coming from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).
The other big sanitary sewer project will occur on Southern Avenue between Kaler Avenue and Whetstone Street. A new sanitary sewer will be installed along with a sewer separation system. Milling and pavement repairs and an asphalt overlay will also occur.
The Southern Avenue Sanitary Sewer project budget has been set for $2,220,840, with the majority of that going toward the construction of the sanitary systems ($1,483,350). Street construction will take up $558,250 of the budget.
Catch basin repairs will take place on Ohio 19 between Sandusky Avenue and the southern corporation line. The project, which has a $305,000 cost, will include milling and pavement repairs, asphalt overlay, and curb ramps. It will be primarily funded by ODOT.
Only preliminary work will take place in the coming year for the Ohio 4/North Sandusky Avenue project. Wider shoulders and bike lane markings will be added between Plymouth Street and the northern corporation line. Milling and pavement repairs and asphalt paving are also included in the project.
Mayor Jeff Reser informed Bucyrus City Council members during a Dec. 6 meeting that the intersection of Irving Street and North Sandusky Avenue became a temporary four-way stop due to sagging from a traffic light there. He further explained the possible changes that would be taking place there in the near future.
The bigger portion of the project will not begin until 2018 or 2019, but the current work has a budget of $286,000.

Locations are still being determined for the 2017 Mill and Pave project, but $725,000 will be earmarked for it. The project will involve catch basic repairs, milling and pavement repairs, and asphalt overlay.
