Those boys and girls of summer who fill the diamonds at Aumiller Park got a boost from the Bucyrus Public Lands and Buildings Committee Wednesday. The committee approved installation of a batting cage between the baseball, and softball fields.
According to Bucyrus Little League Board President Travis Hardy, and board member Scott Langenderfer, the plans would be for a double batting cage to service both baseball and softball. The cage will be constructed 20 feet north of the concession stand.
Money for the project will come from a $75,000 grant from Timken, as well as a $15,000 grant from the Community Foundation for Crawford County.
Langenderfer discussed the project’s timeline.
“We intend once approved by Richland County to start the project the first week of November,” Langenderfer said. “We want to get this up and running so that come March of next year we are up and running with the batting cages and our little league guys and girls can use those cages to enhance their skills, and enhance their overall experience for little league.”
Architect Robert Whitemire will be designing the batting cage.
The batting cage won’t be the only new addition to the ball fields. There are plans to replace the baseball fence, and the softball backstop and fence to and from the dugouts.
