To pick just one play or even series of plays that changes the outcome of a game can be difficult at best. But there is no doubt that Trevor Shawber’s play throughout the game had a huge impact in Colonel Crawford’s playoff-clinching win over Upper Sandusky on Friday.

trevor-shawberShawber consistently made plays on both sides of the ball that kept the Rams from gaining momentum against the Eagles, according to WQEL’s Jeff Roberts, who along with play-by-play commentator Josh Stallings, selected Shawber as the Spitzer Motors Game Changer.

“The Eagles dominated from the start in their 34-14 win over Upper Sandusky, clinching a playoff spot in the process. Trevor contributed on both offense, rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown. He also collected two interceptions on defense, including one he returned over 30 yards for a touchdown to give the Eagles a 34-0 lead, solidifying the victory,” Roberts noted. “Colonel Crawford ended its regular season at 8-2 overall and will play next week in the Division VI, Region 22 football playoffs.”

Shawber’s week 10 efforts included not only the two interceptions, one of which was a pick six, but also 101 yards rushing on 14 carries and the Eagles’ first touchdown of the contest. On defense, he finished the regular season tied for the team lead in tackles.

Colonel Crawford lineman Jaret Tinkey, 50, pulls to open up a hole for Blake Treisch against the Rams.

Teammate Jaret Tinkey, a senior two-way lineman, was pegged by Roberts and Stallings as the McDonalds/Q92 Player of the Game. Tinkey was a force on the Colonel Crawford offensive line that paved the way for a massive 356-yard rushing performance by the Eagles.

On defense, Tinkey was a part of the effort that kept the Upper Sandusky running game in check for most of the evening. And for good measure, Tinkey boomed a 65-yard punt that pinned the Rams inside the 5.

Spitzer Motors Game Changer of the Week award winners receive a T-shirt commemorating their performance and McDonalds Player of the Game honorees receive a gift certificate for two regular size value meals redeemable at either McDonalds of Bucyrus or Galion.

Each week of the local high school football season, Crawford County Now will feature winners of the Spitzer Game Changer of the Week and the McDonalds/Q/92 Player of the Game awards as selected by Jeff Roberts and Josh Stallings.
