The Humane Society Serving Crawford County brought in over $1000 at the first annual Bark-tober Fest held at the Humane Society on October 23, 2016 thanks to Wynford senior Deidra Taylor.
Deidra asked the shelter’s Executive Director, Victoria Carmean, if she could do her senior project to benefit the Humane Society in August. With the help of the shelter team the event became reality.
Bark-tober Fest was an afternoon of beautiful weather, colorful costumes, many games, entertainment and food. A petting zoo, a cake walk, candy corn bingo, face painting supervised by Wynford art teacher Erin Duffy, and an apple on a string game gave the kids lots to do all afternoon. Chili was made over the fire, donuts were donated by Pickwick Place, and there was cider to refresh the guests.
The highlight of the event was the Kiss-A –Pig contest, which had Chief Dave Koepke of the Bucyrus Police Department, Chief Brian Saterfield of the Galion Police Department, Chief Jeff Shook of the New Washington Police Department, and Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent competing for the honors. Chief Brian Saterfield brought in over $250 and won the honor of kissing Elanor, the Pot Belly pig owned by Humane Agent Amy Smith.
The Humane Society Board Members Tricia Breighner, Jill King, Nikki Ward, and Sandy Shields were at the event supporting the shelter team. Angie Chandler, the Dog Warden, was also on hand sharing her Great Dane Lilly with the kids who always love seeing a giant dog.
