The Bucyrus City Council Finance Committee emphasized the .25-percent tax credit on Bucyrus citizens employed outside the city will be done away with and will be replaced with a full credit if the upcoming safety levy passes.

Councilman John Walker brought the issue up during the committee meeting Monday night in order to answer numerous phone calls received from citizens asking about the tax credit.

The Finance Committee also signed off on appropriating the $2,822 insurance check to repair the K-9 squad vehicle which was rear-ended on September 28. Piper’s Repairs will be doing the work on the vehicle.

With Walker making the motion and Councilwoman Monica Sack seconding, the Finance Committee agreed to increase the pay of the casual secretary from $11.75 to $12.50 while Clerk of Council Regina Zornes trains the employee beginning Oct. 28. The pay raise if passed by council will then run through Dec. 31.

The Finance Committee agreed to a resolution that allows the city’s tax rates to be filed with the County Auditor. Bucyrus City Auditor Joyce Schifer noted that there would be no change in the rates, and that the rates need to be approved for the year so that taxes can be collected.

The Platting Committee scheduled for Monday night was rescheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 15. The Finance Committee will hold a special meeting afterwards followed by the Bucyrus City Council meeting.
