One of Crestline’s favorite sons will return to his hometown this Saturday morning.
Calling hours for Crestline native Gates Brown, arguably the greatest pinch hitter ever in Major League Baseball, will be held from 8 to 11 Saturday morning at Crestline High School with a public funeral service there to follow at 11.
Brown died Friday in Detroit at the age of 74 from complications from diabetes.
Tentative plans include burial at Greenlawn Cemetery in Crestline.
The Gates Brown Appreciation Weekend will go on as planned including silent, live and online auctions of sports items and memorabilia. There is also a poker tournament, golf tournament and spaghetti dinner. All proceeds from the weekend’s events will be given to the Brown family for medical expenses.
More on Brown and the weekend activities are available in the latest edition of the Crestline Advocate.
