Kyle DeJean officially traded in his Royal blue for Dragon green Tuesday afternoon as the Wynford senior signed his letter of intent to Tiffin University.
DeJean, who will be majoring in Criminal Justice at Tiffin, signed on to become part of the Dragons pitching rotation in their baseball program. DeJean explained what led him to choose Tiffin University.
“I never expected that I would get a look from a school like Tiffin, and I am really happy that I did and I guess all my hard work paid off,” DeJean said.
DeJean was 5-3 in eight starts for the Royals this past season. He also had one save and an ERA of 3.14.
Wynford baseball coach Joe Staab noted that by receiving consistent coaching, DeJean’s potential as a ball player should flourish.
“Kyle is a great kid, he has worked extremely hard here at Wynford, not only athletically, but academically as well,” Staab said. “He has a lot of untapped potential, and Tiffin University where someone will be able to work with him consistently and he is going to be successful there. He has nothing to do but grow.”
Parents Sheila and Warren Hart were proud.
“It feels pretty incredible watching him, especially over the course of the past year, how much he has matured and grown, not just in baseball, but mentally as well,” Sheila said. “He has put in a lot of hard work this year, and it has shown. He is coming up to his potential that we knew he had, he just had to find it himself how to get there.”
“He has been preparing for this since tee-ball,” Warren added.
DeJean hopes to one day become a corrections officer or a member of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
