Now that the new high school wing is finished on the Colonel Crawford campus, part of the old high school said its final goodbye. A construction crew began demolition of the old high school Tuesday.

“It’s moving pretty quick,” Superintendent Todd Martin said. “They just got started today.”

By late in the afternoon, the crew already demolished four classrooms. Everything west of the cafeteria will fall victim to the backhoe in the coming days. The rooms east of the cafeteria, including the swimming pool, gymnasium, locker rooms, music room, and the shop areas, will remain intact.

Martin said once the demolition is completed, there will be a final grading and an addition of an access road for students to avoid using Ohio 602.

“We’re hoping to be done mid-June,” Martin said.

High school students moved into their new wing in December.
