SHELBY (Crawford County Now) — Veterans With Pets will host its Howl-O-Ween community event Saturday, Oct. 17, at Blackfork Commons in Shelby, featuring family activities, pet-centered events, vendors, food trucks, and veteran support services.

The Halloween-themed event will include more than 50 vendors, nine food trucks, live music, trick-or-treating, free face painting, and five free bounce houses for children.

Pet owners will have opportunities to participate in several activities throughout the day, including a pet costume contest and pet talent show. An on-site pet groomer will also offer ear cleaning and nail trims for $5.

Veterans will receive free admission to the event and have access to a free paw pantry. Organizers said the event is intended to support veterans while raising awareness about veteran suicide prevention.

The event schedule includes a costume parade at 1:30 p.m., a pet costume contest at 2:30 p.m., a pet talent show at 3:30 p.m., a children’s costume contest at 4:30 p.m., and a duck race at 5:30 p.m.

Additional activities will include a pet and kid costume contest, games, and community awareness efforts focused on veteran suicide prevention.

Following the daytime festivities, organizers plan to host an after-hours adult Halloween party.

Veterans With Pets encourages residents to attend the event and help support efforts to assist veterans and their companion animals while bringing the community together for a day of Halloween-themed entertainment.
