BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) — Keynote speaker, author, and retired U.S. Air Force Col. Kim “K.C.” Campbell is visiting Bucyrus for a three-day slate of community events beginning Thursday. The visit supports the Lauretta Schimmoler Museum and features leadership presentations and book signings.
Campbell served 24 years in the Air Force, flying A-10 Warthogs in combat operations and serving as a squadron commander, group commander, and instructor at the Air Force Academy. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, her aircraft sustained critical damage from a surface-to-air missile over Baghdad. Utilizing her emergency procedures training, she successfully flew the severely damaged jet 300 miles back to friendly territory and landed safely.
The schedule of public and community events includes:
- Thursday, Sept. 17 (6:00 p.m.): “Dinner with Kim Campbell” at The Venue at Old 30 BBQ. Campbell will detail her military career and sign copies of her book, Flying in the Face of Fear: A Fighter Pilot’s Lessons on Leading with Courage.
- Friday, Sept. 18: Morning presentation to high school students at Bucyrus High School, followed by a 1:30 p.m. leadership training seminar at Hord Family Farms.
- Saturday, Sept. 19: Book signing appearance at the 6th Annual Lauretta Schimmoler Museum Pancake Fly-In Breakfast at Port Bucyrus-Crawford County Airport.
