BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The annual Port Bucyrus Airport Fly-In returns Saturday, Sept. 19, bringing back the local Kiwanis Club’s traditional pancake breakfast along with a full slate of community activities, aircraft displays, and historic monument dedications.
Running from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event will feature plane rides on a historic Ford Tri-Motor aircraft, hot air balloons, a car show, local vendors, and bounce houses. The Kiwanis Club will serve breakfast from 8 a.m. until noon.
Organizers will also host a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. near the airport’s new administration building for three monuments honoring Port Bucyrus Airport history and its former manager, Lauretta Schimmole—the first female airport manager in the United States.
Ahead of Saturday’s main event, retired U.S. Air Force Col. Kim Campbell, author of Flying in the Face of Fear, will lead several local leadership presentations. Campbell is scheduled to address area high school juniors and seniors on Friday morning, speak at a public dinner event Thursday evening at Old 30, and lead a business leadership session Friday at the Hord facility on State Route 98.
