NEW WASHINGTON (Crawford County Now)— On Wednesday July 8, the Buckeye Central Pony League team played in the Seneca County Youth Baseball Tournament Championship game at Bloomville’s Beeghly Field against Bascom. Buckeye Central defeated Bascom, 8-6, to win the championship.
Prior to the tournament, BC played a total of 16 league games against opponents throughout Seneca and Wyandot counties, finishing with a Pony record of 14-2 and received the No. 3 seed in the tournament bracket.
In the first round, BC faced No. 14 seed Fremont St. Joe team and winning 10-0. In the second round, BC hosted No. 6 seed Seneca East and came away with a 9-3 victory.
In the semifinal game the opponent was No.10 seed Tiffin Calvert. BC advanced to the championship game with a 10-0 win.
In the championship game Bascom took an early lead with three runs in the first inning and added another run in the top of the second inning, to lead 4-0.
However, in the bottom of the second inning BC tallied three runs to climb within one run. After a scoreless third inning, Bascom added to their lead with another run in the top of the fourth inning.
From there, it was all Buckeye Central. Which tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and three runs to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, 8-5.
The seventh saw Bascom score one run but BC was able to close out the game for the championship.
