COLUMBUS (Crawford County Now) — The Ohio High School Athletic Association has released the divisional assignments for the 2026-27 winter sports season.
There were minimal changes in boys’ and girls’ basketball for local teams. Three — all girls — changed divisions from last year.
Wynford girls (131) edged up from Division VI to Division V. The Lady Royals made the move by two girls as the result of their competitive balance number of 10.
The Galion Lady Tigers went from Division V to Division IV with their enrollment of 190 girls. However, their competitive balance number was not a factor in the move.
Seneca East girls (93) — a Division VII state Final Four team a last year — went to Division VI. The Lady Tigers’ competitive balance number is seven.
While those were the only movements this year, Buckeye Central girls (90) remained in Division VI by two. Their competitive balance number of 10 pushed them over the top.
Mohawk girls (95) stayed in Division VI by seven, but competitive balance had nothing to do with it since their number was zero. They shared that designation locally with Northmor girls along with Upper Sandusky and Galion boys.
Mohawk boys (93) were four short of sliding back to Division VII. Their low CB number of two was not a factor.
Other schools got close to moving up but stopped short.
Buckeye Central boys (91) was tied for being the sixth largest Division VII school, two short of Division VI despite a competitive balance number of 10.
Bucyrus boys (135) were in a 3-way tie for largest Division VI school with a modest five CB number.
Colonel Crawford (124) and Bucyrus (122) girls stayed in Division VI, avoiding a move to Division V by six and eight girls respectively, with CB numbers of five and seven.
Ridgedale girls (86) clung to Division VII by two girls thanks to a competitive balance of one.
Competitive balance numbers are calculated on the number of students that are open enrolled from neighboring schools. The total number is predicated on boys or girls in the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes.
