MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—A new community initiative is bringing free music education to Mansfield this summer. Richland Academy of the Arts, in partnership with The Ohio State University at Mansfield, will host a series of seven free community guitar workshops led by some of the region’s top guitar players and community volunteers.
The workshops are designed to be entirely flexible, requiring no cost, long-term commitment, or prior musical experience. Residents can attend any individual session that fits their schedule. To ensure the program is accessible to everyone, loaner guitars will be provided for participants to use during class.
The initiative is developed through a community engagement program at OSU-Mansfield, with instrument funding provided by the university’s Office of Academic Affairs and the Mellon Foundation.
Each 50-minute session will feature a different instructor, exposing attendees to a diverse range of musical styles through live demonstrations, guided practice, and informal Q&A sessions.
The workshops will run from 4:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. on the following dates:
- June 10 (Wed): Nate Wieland
- June 17 (Wed): Ricky Mitchell
- June 24 (Wed): Mantra Das
- July 8 (Wed): Ross and Thomas
- July 15 (Wed): Scott Osborne
- July 22 (Wed): Special Guest Instructor (To Be Announced)
- July 30 (Thurs): Karl Wohlwend
All skill levels, from absolute beginners picking up an instrument for the first time to experienced players looking to refine their technique, are welcome.
