BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Bucyrus Mayor Bruce Truka released the following statement after  the fatal shooting of a suspect in a domestic violence dispute that began Sunday night:

“On behalf of myself and Safety Service Director Tommy Starner, we would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for the tireless dedication of all officers who responded to the hostage/standoff incident on E. Warren Street in Bucyrus Sunday evening into Monday morning. Along with Bucyrus Police Chief Jon Dorsey, we extend gratitude to the agencies that supported his department, including the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Mansfield Police Department, Lexington Police Department, Ontario Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, BCI, The Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office, The Crawford County Coroner’s Office, and the Bucyrus Fire Department. Their support is essential to keeping our community safe.

The standoff began around 10:40 PM Sunday and concluded shortly before noon. While the outcome was not what the team had hoped for, we commend them for their professionalism and commitment to first trying to resolve  the situation with less than lethal force.”—Bucyrus Mayor Bruce Truka
