MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Mansfield Shakespeare Company has announced upcoming auditions for its summer Shakespeare in the Park production of “Hamlet.”

Auditions for the iconic tragedy will take place Sunday, May 3, and Monday, May 4, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Founders Auditorium on the Ohio State University Mansfield campus.

Directed by Joseph Fahey, the production marks a continuation of the company’s mission to provide accessible cultural experiences to the North Central Ohio community. The play, which explores themes of revenge, morality, and grief, will be staged in an outdoor setting at Mansfield’s South Park.

“This is a bold and engaging way to bring one of Shakespeare’s most enduring works to our local audience,” the company stated in a release.

The production is seeking a diverse cast of actors aged 13 and older. While the company is looking for seasoned performers, organizers emphasized that those new to Shakespeare are also encouraged to audition. Participants will be asked to perform readings from the script. Prepared Shakespearean monologues are welcome but not required.

Rehearsals are scheduled to begin the week of May 3, leading up to performances on June 19, 20, and 21.

The Mansfield Shakespeare Company, founded in 2023, operates as a non-profit organization. This production is a non-union, non-compensated community theater opportunity.

Prospective actors who cannot attend in-person auditions may request instructions for video submissions by emailing mansfieldshakespearecompany@gmail.com.
