MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center’s Fall Academic Challenge season concluded with a two-day, in-person tournament following several weeks of virtual league competition, highlighting the academic excellence of high school students across the region.

The in-person Fall Academic Challenge Tournament saw Madison High School take the Varsity Championship by defeating Mansfield Christian 44-38 in the final round. The Madison winning team included Chris Lucas, Cam Porter, Bryce Tudor and Kayley Stone.

In the Junior Varsity Tournament final, Lexington won a condensed Lighting Round against Colonel Crawford 14-12.

League Standings

In the prior fully virtual league competition involving 16 area high schools, the following teams captured the top spots in their divisions:

  • Varsity A Bracket:Lexington High School, with a league-high score of 227 points.
    • Team Members: Alex T. (co-captain), Ben W. (co-captain), Ari C., with alternates Gianna B. Asher P. and Maddie W.
  • Varsity B Bracket:Mansfield Christian School, with an impressive 263 points.
    • Team Members: Elijah Martin, Logan Wilson, Grady Heichel, Adam Ebersole and Logan Gehrisch.
  • Junior Varsity League Champion:Lexington High School.
    • Team Members: Gianna B. (co-captain), Asher P. (co-captain), Maddie W. (co-captain), Ella R. and Jesse S., with team manager Marissa R.

Tournament Runner-Ups

The two-day tournament featured intense competition, with several other teams reaching the finals of their respective brackets:

  • Varsity Tournament Finalist: Mansfield Christian (Lost to Madison, 38-44)
  • Varsity Bracket Day 2 Finalists: Tiffin defeated Buckeye Central 49-33.
  • JV Tournament Finalist: Colonel Crawford (Lost to Lexington, 12-14)
