The Buckeye Central Board of Education looked to the future as board members had a fairly quiet meeting to close out 2015.
In his report to the Board Superintendent Mark Robinson spoke about having representatives from FranklinCovey come to the school during the summer to provide training for the Leader in Me program. Robinson also spoke about expanding the special needs student programming as well as staff moving forward.
“We need to watch the designation from ODE and work with the staff to close the gap between the special needs student and regular student population,” Robinson explained to the board.
Closing out his report to the board, Robinson thanked outgoing board member Mike Kalb for his four years of service to the Buckeye Central Board of Education. Mike Dean will be replacing Kalb on the board at the January meeting.
In Treasurer Nancy Ackerman’s report to the board she noted little activity for the month of November.. Ackerman noted that she will know more as it pertains to the five-year forecast when the next income tax and foundation payments are made to the district. Ackerman requested that Buckeye Central open a new account for funds from a small rural grant.
Board members approved the appointment of Lou Ann Newlove to the Bliss Memorial Public Library Board of Trustees for a seven-year term. The board also approved Mike Dean as volunteer to the varsity baseball team, Abrahm Kaple to the boys 8th grade basketball team, and David Moyer to the 7th grade basketball team for the 2015-2016 school year.
The next Buckeye Central Board meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Jan. 14 for the annual organizational meeting. The regular meeting will take place immediately afterwards.
