It was all hands on deck Sunday afternoon when the former Eckleberry Poultry Factory went up in flames.
The Bucyrus Fire Department called in mutual aid from the Galion City, Crestline Village, and Marion Township fire departments to handle the blaze that overtook the building located at 823 S. Spring St. in Bucyrus.
Officials kept residents and spectators back due to concerns over toxic smoke from chemicals that may have been in the building. Two dogs were reportedly rescued by firefighters from an upstairs apartment.
The Crawford County chapter of the American Red Cross is helping a Bucyrus family of two adults and three children aid for immediate needs such as temporary shelter, food, clothing and other necessities after their apartment was significantly damaged by the Spring Street fire.
The Red Cross also provided canteen services for on the scene, serving food and beverages and offering respite to the first responders battling the blaze.
The Red Cross will continue to aid the residents as needed and assist in long term recovery planning with resources, information, and referrals to partner agencies.
