GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Galion Theatre is set to open its vibrant production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” on July 25.
The musical is a colorful adaptation of the biblical story from Genesis, following Joseph and his jealous brothers. The show is unique in its almost entirely sung-through format, featuring extensive dancing and singing rather than traditional spoken lines. This requires actors to convey emotion and narrative through heightened facial expressions and body movement.
Learning the demanding score and intricate choreography has been a significant undertaking for the cast. Rehearsals began in early May, with performers dedicating months to perfecting the material. Choreographer Beth drew inspiration from her childhood familiarity with the musical to create dynamic routines for the sizable cast of approximately 55 performers, which includes a children’s ensemble and adult actors. Director Rachel Jarvis highlighted the challenge of coordinating such a large group, ensuring seamless movement on stage.
The cast and crew have shown immense dedication throughout the production process.
Performances are scheduled for:
