BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Get ready to feel nostalgic! The Bucyrus Little Theatre is bringing the beloved educational cartoon series “Schoolhouse Rock” to the stage with “Schoolhouse Rock Live!”
Based on the classic Saturday morning shorts, the musical features familiar tunes like “Conjunction Junction,” “I’m Just a Bill,” and “The Preamble.” The show follows a teacher, Barb, on her first day of school as parts of her personality emerge to help her through her anxieties using the iconic Schoolhouse Rock songs to prove she’s ready.
Martha Tidball, from the Bucyrus Little Theatre, shared details with Randy Bigley on “Community Spotlight,” noting the show’s appeal to those who grew up with the cartoons. “All those great songs are included in the show. It’s very it’s like a nice wave of nostalgia,” Tidball said. She also highlighted that the original Schoolhouse Rock series featured music by composers who went on to achieve Broadway success.
The cast of six includes Mary Catherine Hart as Barb, Patty Schwall as Shulie, Abigail Kanellakis as Dory, Martha Tidball as George, Rick Walker as Joe, and Jayda Robison as Dina. The production will also incorporate projections, a first for the theater.
Performances are scheduled for June 6, 7, 8 and 13, 14, 15. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are available now at bucyruslittletheatre.com or via a link on the Bucyrus Little Theatre’s Facebook page.
Tidball also mentioned that the theater will be announcing their upcoming season soon and will present a children’s show, “Willy Wonka Junior,” this summer, with more details to follow.
