GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Galion Community Band will host a big band swing concert at the First United Church of Christ, located at 248 Harding Way West in Galion, Ohio. The concert, featuring The Shawshank Big Band under the direction of Mr. Damian Boyd, will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 23.
The Galion Community Band, which has been performing summer concerts in Galion since 1976, is currently under the direction of Brian Treisch. This summer, the band will perform two concerts: one during the Fourth of July celebration and another in August. The Community Band, composed of area musicians, performs concert band works and is open to all musicians from high school age and up. Funds are needed to cover expenses such as insurance, player compensation, music, and other costs. Rehearsal dates for the Community Band will be announced soon.
The Shawshank Big Band, known for playing music from the Swing Era, is directed by noted area trombonist Mr. Damian Boyd. The band consists of talented musicians from across north central Ohio and aims to keep the great music of the Swing Era alive. The band recently performed at the new Lyric Theater in Wooster to positive reception.
The concert is part of the music ministry of the First United Church of Christ, which hosts monthly concerts featuring The Shawshank Big Band. Proceeds from these concerts are split between the Big Band and a designated organization. “We hope to have a good crowd to hear some great music and to support a good cause,” said Brian Treisch, a member of the Band of the First Church.
The concert will be held in the church sanctuary and is open to the public free of charge. A freewill donation is requested, with proceeds being split between The Shawshank Big Band and The Galion Community Band. Doors will open to the public at 5:30 p.m.
