SHELBY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Pioneer Career and Technology Center is gearing up for a busy and transformative year with several new initiatives and events. Dan Slaughter and Don Paulin from Pioneer joined Community Spotlight to discuss the upcoming sophomore visits, new lab introductions, and updates on adult education programs.
Next week, Pioneer will welcome approximately 1,500 sophomores from its 14 partner districts for a hands-on experience in various labs. “Students will spend about 30 minutes in three different labs of their choice, engaging in activities to get a feel for the programs,” Slaughter explained. An open house will follow on Thursday evening, allowing students and their parents to explore additional labs.
Pioneer is also excited to announce the introduction of a new First Responder lab for the next school year. “This lab will focus on police, fire, and EMT training, providing students with a comprehensive introduction to these vital fields,” Slaughter said. Additionally, the school is expanding its facilities with a second welding lab, a new industrial maintenance lab, and an updated precision machining lab.
On the adult education front, Don Paulin highlighted the launch of the first LPN class, a year-long program aimed at addressing the growing demand for healthcare professionals. “Our goal is to make education as affordable as possible, especially for single parents and working adults,” Paul emphasized. Pioneer continues to offer programs in STNA, phlebotomy, medical assisting, and welding, with plans to introduce an EMT program in the near future.
Pioneer also promotes its Adult Diploma Program, which allows individuals to earn a high school diploma while gaining certification in fields like welding. “It’s a great opportunity for those who left school early to achieve their educational and career goals,” Paul noted.
