BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Crawford County Now has obtained an email from Councilwoman At-Large Vicki Dishon, in which she informs her colleagues on the Bucyrus City Council that she will not seek re-election.
Dishon is currently in the second year of her first term and has been known for her vigilant oversight and attention to detail during her tenure.
Dishon, a prominent figure in local governance, gained recognition for her active participation in council meetings prior to her election. Her tenure has been marked by her insistence on procedural accuracy, particularly in the keeping of meeting minutes, which has sometimes put her at odds with fellow council members. Notably, her commitment to transparency led to successful litigation against the 2020-2021 city council for violations of Ohio’s Sunshine Laws. The city paid Dishon $2,500.
In October 2021, the council faced controversy when Council Clerk Rebecca Warren resigned, citing being “slammed and berated” by Dishon during her time as a citizen advocate.
Dishon has also been vocal about financial accountability in local events, as demonstrated in April 2024 when she presented findings on the Bratwurst Festival’s financial disclosures. Her investigation uncovered discrepancies between itemized expenses and unitemized revenue sources, raising concerns about the festival’s financial transparency. Councilman Kevin Myers, who became the festival director in 2021, initially showed a willingness to share financial records but ultimately did not provide the requested information, prompting Dishon to advocate for and achieve the repeal of a 2019 agreement to provide city services to the festival. Currently, the city has no commitment to the Bratwurst Festival to provide any services.
In addition to her role as Councilwoman, Dishon has contributed as the Chairperson of the Health and Safety Committee and has served on the Economic Development, Platting, and Finance Committees. She has also held the position of Protem Council Clerk.
Crawford County Now has reached out to Dishon for further comment on her decision not to seek re-election, but she has not yet responded.
