BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Bucyrus Little Theatre and the Bucyrus Little Theatre’s Teen Theatre Club are excited to announce auditions for their first-ever Teen Improv Troupe. Auditions will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 3-4 p.m. The troupe, generously sponsored by Oakstone Landscape, is open to area teenagers aged 13-18.
The Teen Improv Troupe will function similarly to athletic organizations, with regular “practices” and opportunities for members to showcase their skills. Practices will be held every Saturday. Dalton Edwards, coach and director of Bucyrus Little Theatre’s Teen Improv Troupe, emphasized the discipline and training required for successful improv, despite its fun and laid-back appearance.
“Improv is sometimes seen as the fun and laid back cousin of theater but while it may appear easy for some, it takes a lot of discipline and training,” said Edwards. “When taught and performed properly, it can be one of the most entertaining performances for audiences of all ages. Improv is something I hold near and dear to my heart and to share it with this next generation of actors at Bucyrus Little Theatre is a passion of mine.”
Improv comedy gained popularity in 1998 with the television show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” featuring performers like Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Wayne Brady, and Drew Carey. In recent years, actors such as Steve Carell and Ryan Reynolds have used improv to enhance their performances.
The Teen Improv Troupe will practice skills and games that encourage quick thinking, teamwork, and creativity. After several months of practice, the troupe plans to host an Improv Night in late winter/early spring, open to the public. The troupe will also provide impromptu performances throughout the year.
Those interested in auditioning will be asked to showcase their skills through guided activities, with no advance preparation necessary. Participants will also be asked to share their level of availability, as the troupe requires a regular and ongoing commitment.
