Marge Lee McCumber, 92, formerly of Galion, was called home on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
Marge was born on June 16, 1932, in Wichita, Kansas to the late Vernon and Beulah (Nelson) White. On June 17, 1951, Marge joined hands in marriage with Fred McCumber and they shared 73 years of loving marriage, Fred survives.
A graduate of Morral High School, Class of 1950, Marge went on to pursue a career in real estate, working for Fred Barr and Miley Realty. She dedicated her time and talents to various community organizations, including serving as a secretary at the Crawford County Realtors and volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader. As a Scout Leader, Marge was the district Cookie Chairman, everyone depended on her to fulfill orders and distribute them to the correct families. Marge was also known for her involvement with the Galion Community Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, delivering Meals on Wheels, and serving on the Crawford County Board of Elections. She was also active in the Galion Boosters Club and served on the Galion Board of Education, where she served as president for four years.
A woman of many interests, Marge enjoyed traveling, cross-stitching, completing crossword puzzles and gardening, she was especially keen to day lilies. In her spare time, you could find Marge cheering on the Cleveland Indians or watching Jeopardy.
In addition to her professional achievements, Marge was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She found immense joy in spending time with her family, supporting them in all their endeavors. Marge was the greatest coach’s wife, never missing a game and always making sure to keep track of scores.
In addition to her husband, Marge’s memories will be cherished by her children: Cathy (Tom) Hansen of Galion, Steven (Julie) McCumber of West Salem, Jeri (Bret) Wolfe of Plano, TX, and Laura (Doug) Rigdon of Galion; grandchildren: Chris (Kristen) Hansen of Sister, OR, Eric McCumber of Arlington, TX, David (Bri) McCumber of Bellville, Amy (Ryan) Hyatt of Clintonville, Kelly (Brad) Bailey of Plano, TX, Scott (Heather) Rigdon of Galion, Michael (Lindsay) Wolfe of Madison, WI, Cara Rigdon of Columbus, Rebecca Rigdon of Galion, and Sam Rigdon of US Coast Guard; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister Amanda Kunze of Granbury, TX.
In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah McCumber-Pearce, grandson, Casey Wolfe and her sister, Judy Hornbeck.
Friends may call on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, at Grace Point Church; 683 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will take place immediately following with Pastor Paul Walter officiating. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery following the funeral service.
