North Central Electric Cooperative will conduct a tour of its coal-fired generating plant along the Ohio River on Wednesday, Sept. 30. This all-day trip is open to cooperative members.

Over the last 10 years, Buckeye Power, North Central’s wholesale power supplier, and the 24 Ohio electric cooperatives that own it, have invested more than $1 billion to upgrade the Cardinal Generating Station in Brilliant, Ohio, with environmental controls to meet today’s clean air standards. Today, Cardinal Generating Station is considered to be among the cleanest coal-fired facilities of its kind in the world.

The group will depart from the North Central’s office in Attica about 7 a.m. Members will travel to Steubenville for lunch and then tour the Cardinal Generating Station plant early in the afternoon. The bus generally returns to the cooperative’s office about 7 p.m. North Central will pick up the cost of lunch and transportation for the day. The Cardinal plant tour takes 60 to 90 minutes and requires extensive walking and includes stairs. Members with pacemakers should check with their physicians before requesting a spot on the tour.

A refundable deposit of $15 per person, $25 per couple is required when registering. Please contact Communications Manager Teri Lease at 1-800-426-3072 or tlease@fesco-oh.org for more information or to register for the tour. The deadline September 11, 2015.
