GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The First United Church of Christ in Galion is set to host a benefit concert for the Bucyrus Outreach and Restoration Network (BORN) on Sunday, June 30 at 6:00 p.m. The concert, part of the church’s monthly music ministry series, will be held at the church’s pavilion located at 248 Harding Way West in Galion.

The concert will feature the Shawshank Big Band, an organization dedicated to preserving the music of the Big Band Era. Under the direction of Damian Boyd, a noted area trombonist, the sixteen-piece big band will perform transcriptions of iconic songs from the 1930s, 40s, and early 50s. This June concert will highlight many songs made famous by the Count Basie Orchestra.

BORN, a Christian non-profit and a 501c3 organization, provides non-sustaining emergency assistance to residents and transients in Crawford County. Their mission is to address financial, physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs by networking with churches, agencies, and individuals to promote effective and efficient use of community resources.

While the concert is free to the public, free-will donations will be accepted. The donations will be split between the band and BORN. Concert-goers are asked to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the concert comfortably. Free popcorn will be provided by the Mission Committee of the church.

This concert marks the first of the year to be held outside in the pavilion of the church. The First United Church of Christ in Galion hosts concerts featuring the Shawshank Big Band on the last Sunday of every month.
