A rural Bucyrus man facing the possibility of spending as long as three years in prison was able to stay free following his sentencing Monday.
Thirty-six-year-old Jamie L. Taylor was sentenced to five years of community control. He previously pleaded guilty to having weapons under disability, which is a third-degree felony.
Judge Sean Leuthold said, “I don’t think that putting the defendant in prison is necessary in this case.”
However, if Taylor fails to successfully complete his five years of community control, he faces 36 months in prison as well as three years of post-release control.
Thirty-one-year-old Brian K. Beitzel of Mt. Vernon pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of drugs. His recommended sentence was five years of community control. Failure to successfully complete community control could result in 12 months in prison.
Judge Sean Leuthold then ordered a pre-sentence investigation for Beitzel prior to sentencing.
