While there is debate in much of the country regarding police officers wearing body cameras, the debate in Crestline is all about policy.
In a meeting of the Crestline Legislative and Finance committees on Tuesday, that department’s use of cameras it has had for several months came up for discussion. Finance Committee chair Allen Laferty shared the issues regarding those cameras.
“We’ve actually had them, our problem is the policy. When you have those body cameras on, we go into residences, do we turn them off, do we turn them on? What do we do with that and then what do we do with the information we got from that, how we store that? We are looking to make sure that we do it right,” Laferty said.
Those committees also discussed various methods to make it more convenient for residents to pay village utility bills.
“We’re setting some new policies, just some little stuff to allow us, I always say just make it simple so like payment-wise they can come to City Hall and pay with their credit card, pay with their debit card, do it online,” Laferty said. “It sounds really simple, but we don’t do that, we do our Income Tax. So, if a person wants to pay their bill they can’t pay it. So we are cleaning that up and making it easier for people.”
The committees also discussed the police and fire levy.
