August is a busy month for the Crawford Park District with several activities planned for patrons of all ages.

Nocturnal Nature – Friday, August 9    8:30 PM    Unger Park, 1303 Bucyrus-Nevada Rd.
Join Crawford Park District Naturalist, Josh Dyer,  as he explores the darkness with flashlights and sets up “moth sheet” to attract flying insects. While most of us are retiring for the evening, there can be explosive awakenings of nocturnal animals.  Fun for all ages.  Flashlights recommended.  Unger Park is located just west of Bucyrus on Bucyrus-Nevada Road.  For more information contact the Crawford Park District office at 419-683-9000.

CC Lions Club Recycling  – Saturday, August 10   9AM -12PM  Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 State Route 598.
Recycling is held the second Saturday of each month at Lowe-Volk Park.  Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Crawford Park District.  Gather all of your recyclables and bring them out to the Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center.  We will be accepting:
Cardboard
Clear/brown/green/blue glass (separate by color)
#1 (PETE) plastics
#2 (HDPE) plastics (colors do not have to be separated)
Newspaper/magazines/office paper/junk mail
Steel cans
Aluminum cans
Electronics (computer towers, laptops, printers, cell phones)
Household batteries
CFL lightbulbs – from households only, no businesses please
eyeglasses

What’s A Scavenger? – Monday, August 12  6PM  Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 State Route 598.
The Crawford Park District’s Joy Etter-Link always finds a way to make nature activities a whole lotta fun!  Find out about animals that are called scavengers, then go on an action filled scavenger hunt at Lowe-Volk Park.  Kids up to grade 5 are welcome.  Lowe-Volk Park is located 3 miles north of US Route 30.   For more information contact the Crawford Park District office at 419-683-9000.

Crickets and Katydids – Tuesday, August 13    8:30PM  Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 State Route 598
Meet Crawford Park District Naturalist, Warren Uxley,  at Lowe-Volk Park and learn the sounds of late summer evenings.  Tree Crickets; Ground Crickets; Trigs; Meadow, Conehead and Bush Katydids; they all combine to bring a rich cacophony to the twilight hours of late summer.  Some are harsh, discordant, while others are soothing, restful. There will be a short PowerPoint presentation followed by a walk.
